Dinosaur Kingdom II

What to Expect

Step back in time to an alternate version of the Civil War where the North has unleashed dinosaurs as weapons of mass destruction! This isn’t your typical dinosaur park; it’s a wild, weird, and wonderful walking adventure that the Washington Post has called ‘Amazing! Brilliant! Hilarious!’. Come experience one of the most unique roadside attractions in the world.

The Prehistoric Experience

Features numerous life-sized dinosaur statues in various whimsical and bizarre scenes, often interacting with Civil War soldiers. Visitors can see Stonewall Jackson battling a Spinosaurus and Abraham Lincoln wrangling a Pteranodon.

Hours: Open weekends from April 19th through Memorial Day, then open daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Weekends only in September and October. Hours are 10am – 6pm (last ticket sold at 5pm).

Dinosaur Land

What to Expect

For over 50 years, Dinosaur Land has been delighting visitors with its impressive collection of prehistoric creatures. Wander through a forest of over 50 colossal dinosaurs and snap a photo with King Kong! It’s a classic family-friendly attraction that offers a fun and educational trip back in time.

The Prehistoric Experience

This park features over 50 life-sized dinosaur statues, including favorites like the T-Rex, Triceratops, and Stegosaurus. It provides a walk-through experience to see these prehistoric replicas up close.

Hours: March 1 – Memorial Day: 9:30 am – 5:30 pm; Memorial Day – Labor Day: 9:30 am – 6:00 pm; Labor Day – December 31: 9:30 am – 5:00 pm (Closed on Thursdays from October 1st – December 31st); Closed January and February.

Museum of Geosciences

What to Expect

Unearth the treasures of our planet at the Museum of Geosciences at Virginia Tech! From dazzling gems and minerals to the fossilized footprints of ancient creatures, this museum offers a fascinating journey through Earth’s history. Prepare to be awestruck by the full-scale cast of a mighty Allosaurus skeleton that dominates the exhibit hall!

The Prehistoric Experience

The museum’s collection includes a full-scale cast of an Allosaurus dinosaur skeleton, dinosaur footprints, and various other fossils. It serves as an educational resource for paleontology.

Hours: Fall and Spring Semester: Monday – Friday: 9 AM – 5 PM. Summer: Wednesday – Friday: 10 AM – 2 PM. Closed weekends.

T.rex Trek

What to Expect

Get ready for a roaring good time at the Virginia Living Museum’s T.rex Trek! Keep your eyes peeled and your cameras ready as a life-sized animatronic T.rex makes a surprise appearance on the museum grounds. This is your chance for an unforgettable photo op with the king of the dinosaurs!

The Prehistoric Experience

A special event featuring a walking, life-sized animatronic Tyrannosaurus rex. This event provides an interactive and up-close encounter with a realistic dinosaur.

Hours: Occurs on select dates (October 4, 18 and November 1, 2025). The trek lasts for 12-20 minutes during museum hours.

Virginia Living Museum

What to Expect

Discover Virginia’s natural heritage from the mountains to the sea, and even back to the time of dinosaurs! The Virginia Living Museum offers a wild adventure with indoor and outdoor exhibits, a planetarium, and hands-on activities. Walk along the outdoor boardwalk to see living animals in their natural habitats and then travel back in time on the Dinosaur Discovery Trail.

The Prehistoric Experience

The museum features a permanent outdoor exhibit called the ‘Dinosaur Discovery Trail,’ which showcases 16 life-like dinosaur replicas, a paleo camp, and dig pits. Indoors, the ‘Dinosaur Quest’ experience includes interactive displays and animatronic dinosaurs.

Hours: Daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Virginia Museum of Natural History

The Prehistoric Experience

The museum hosts ‘The Age of Dinosaurs’ special exhibit, featuring a variety of fossils, cast skeletons and skulls, animatronic displays, and interactive elements. Highlights include a life-size cast skeleton of a Triceratops and a cast skull of a Tyrannosaurus rex.

Hours: Tuesday – Saturday: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Closed Sundays, Mondays, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
